Prostrate, mat-forming, blue-green colored summer annual. Leaves, alternate, smooth, oblong to linear, short-petiole, join to stem by a sheathing membrane. Inconspicuous white flowers are formed in the leaf axils. Reproduces by seed. Common on infertile and compacted soils. One of the first summer annuals to germinate in the spring. Found throughout the United States. Also occurs in Canada, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Hawaii.
