Broadleaf Panicum (Tropic Panicum, Dominican Panicum)

Annual which sometimes bends and roots at the lower nodes. Stems leafy, erect to ascending. Leaf blades broad, often covered with fine hairs. Leaf sheaths entirely hairy or hairy in lines along the margins. Seedheads with ascending branches. Flowers purple to greenish-yellow, with obscure rectangular lines. Reproduces by seed. Found in peninsula of Florida from Volusia County southwards. Also found in the West Indies. Has been found on ballast in Philadelphia, PA; Camden, NJ; and Mobile, AL.
